China’s shipbuilding output down 29.8 percent in January-July

In the January-July period of the current year, the aggregate shipbuilding output in China (from a total of 80 shipbuilding enterprises) amounted to 24.92 million deadweight tons (dwt), down 29.8 percent year on year, according to the figures released by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI) on August 21.

In the given period, China's new ship orders amounted to 29.76 million dwt, up 155.7 percent year on year. As of the end of July, ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 111.52 million dwt, down 9.7 percent year on year and up 4.3 percent compared to the end of 2012.

In the January-July period this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output for export orders in China totaled 20.58 million deadweight tons (dwt), down 28.3 percent year on year and accounting for 82.6 percent of the total shipbuilding output in China. In the given period, China's new ship export orders amounted to 27.31 million dwt, up 219 percent year on year and constituting of 91.8 percent of total new ship orders. As of the end of July, ship export orders on the books of  Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 93 million dwt, down 9.5 percent compared with the same period of 2012 and constituting of 83.4 percent of total ship export orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises.

In the first seven months, the total industrial output value of the 80 shipbuilding enterprises in China amounted to RMB 198.7 billion ($32.47 billion), down 15.2 percent year on year. Total operating revenue and gross profit of the enterprises in question amounted to RMB 137.1 billion ($22.4 billion) and RMB 3.78 billion ($617.6 million), down 18.2 percent and 63.6 percent respectively, both year on year.

In the January-July period of this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output of the 39 large and medium-size shipbuilding enterprises in China totaled 21.28 million deadweight tons (dwt), down 32.5 percent year on year. In the given period, the new ship orders of the 39 enterprises in question amounted to 27.93 million dwt, up 182 percent year on year. As of the end of July, ship orders on the books of these large and medium-size shipbuilding enterprises totaled 100.99 million dwt, down 9.2 percent year on year.
